UKSFA highlights sustainability at Parliamentary Industry Forum
Our CEO, Cathie Clarke, represented UKSFA and the flooring sector at a key parliamentary and industry gathering last month (March), highlighting the organisation’s growing role in driving sustainability across the industry.
The visit followed a productive meeting of the British Furniture Confederation (BFC) Public Affairs Advisory Council (PAAC), held at the historic Furniture Makers’ Company Hall in central London.
The session brought together leaders from across the furniture, furnishings and flooring sector to discuss both the challenges facing the industry and the opportunities for greater collaboration.
Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including regulatory pressures and sustainability priorities. Attendees also heard an insightful presentation on flammability regulations from Tristine Hargreaves of the National Bed Federation (NBF), helping to inform a coordinated industry response.
Building on these conversations, BFC Chair Tony Attard OBE brought key insights to a wider audience at the All-Party Parliamentary Furniture Industry Group (APPFIG), hosted at Portcullis House and chaired by Adam Thompson MP.
UKSFA’s work
During the APPFIG session, Cathie Clarke spoke about UKSFA’s work to support the sector’s sustainability transition, with a particular focus on flooring takeback schemes and reuse initiatives. She highlighted the development of the expanded and newly trademarked TakeMyFlooring® portal and emphasised the importance of industry-wide collaboration to tackle shared environmental challenges.
The meeting also explored the broader role of the creative industries in driving UK economic growth, reinforcing the importance of aligning sustainability efforts with innovation and policy.
