Carpet Recycling UK (CRUK) is pleased to announce that it has now joined The British Furniture Confederation (BFC) which is a lobbying group consisting of members across the furniture, furnishing and bed sectors. CRUK is the first flooring organisation to join the group to represent the carpet and textile flooring sector.

The aim of the BFC is to maintain an influential dialogue with the UK Government through various Ministers and All Party Parliamentary Groups ensuring that, all policies and initiatives are in favour of supporting a successful furniture, furnishings and bed sector. To which we have now added the carpet and textile flooring sector.

The key areas the BFC engage with Ministers on includes, but is not limited to:

  • Sustainability and environmental matters
  • Fire safety regulations
  • Apprenticeship schemes
  • Import and export regulations
  • Costs of energy
  • Supply chain challenges

As a combined set of trade associations, the contribution to the UK economy is £42 billion per annum, so not an insignificant amount and one that needs to be listened to. Our recent engagement through the BFC was to prepare a briefing note to be forwarded to Ministers (including shadow ministers) and DEFRA asking for clarity and engagement on issues such as EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility).

On an annual basis and in June every year, the BFC hosts a confederation lunch at the House of Commons which was attended by CRUK last year. For next year’s lunch, we will be inviting our Core Members to attend so we can collectively represent the carpet and textile Flooring Sector.

UK Sustainable Flooring Alliance is the only membership association dedicated to helping the UK textile and resilient flooring sector become more sustainable.
