New for 2022, Carpet Recycling UK wanted to reward companies who can demonstrate their overall approach towards the Circular Economy. Companies who consider all aspects of planning and designing products with circularity in mind and not just waste reduction and recycling could apply. Integration of the supply chain and collaborative working is also key.
The Judges were looking at how challenges are addressed, how the supply chain is involved and how emerging technologies are utilised. Emphasis on waste reduction technologies, process innovation, repurposing and material reductions were key.
We were delighted to award Tarkett as winner of the award, and the highly commended members were Betap BV, Interfloor Ltd and Melrose Interiors Ltd.
We caught up with Ross Dight, Sustainability Director at Tarkett after the event “It was great to return to the Carpet Recycling UK conference at the end of June and to see some familiar faces from the industry at an event where the intentions look to build upon the sustainability journey across the sector.
The team at Carpet Recycling UK deserve huge credit for arranging the event and for organising such a diverse range of speakers. It was inspiring to hear about the interesting new technologies that each contribute toward successful carpet recycling processes and how businesses are implementing these processes, which ultimately help reduce waste, save valuable resources and tackle climate change, not only in their own organisations, but across the whole carpet supply chain and wider flooring/construction industry.
We were delighted to be invited to present our ‘Circular Economy initiatives’ presentation to all of the members who were in attendance, followed by thought-provoking discussions led by experts in the industry from all over the world.
Our presentation focused on Tarkett’s three key pillars for sustainability: climate change and the circular economy, good materials and indoor air quality. We placed specific focus on our 2030 ambitions, our ReStart recycling scheme and how recycling can reduce CO2 emissions.
In addition, we highlighted some of the tools we use to help our clients and customers, such as our new Carbon Calculator, Cradle to Cradle™ certifications and our Circular Selection product portfolio. Being able to help clients and customers and share our journey with other organisations and members of Carpet Recycling UK gives us increased commitment to continually improve our support.
We were delighted to be recognised as the winner in this year’s ‘Circular Economy Initiative of the Year’ category. In addition, we came as highly commended in the ‘Take Back Partner of the Year’ and ‘Recycler of the Year’ categories!
Finally, we were also honoured to receive a special collaboration award following our efforts with the supply chain partners on recycling flooring material following last year’s COP26 event in Glasgow.
