TakeMyFlooring® is officially trademarked
In a major step forward for the UKSFA and our industry, our TakeMyFlooring® initiative is now trademarked. This achievement marks a significant step in the development of a more coordinated, practical approach to flooring reuse and recycling across the UK.
What is TakeMyFlooring®?
A new, online portal is being developed by UKSFA to connect contractors with existing takeback and recycling schemes. Designed with the real and day-to-day on-site challenges in mind, it will provide a simple, centralised way to identify available options for flooring waste. It will also help users quickly find where materials can be reused, recycled, or responsibly managed.
Over time, the initiative will also highlight gaps in current provision, supporting the longer-term ambition to establish regional collection and sorting hubs. These hubs will make it easier to move materials at scale, improve recycling viability, and unlock greater opportunities for reuse.
Why does it matter?
Reuse sits at the top of the waste hierarchy, yet in flooring, it has often been overlooked. While recycling remains important, keeping materials in use for longer offers the greatest environmental benefit, reducing waste and cutting demand for new raw materials.
However, flooring presents unique challenges. Products are typically designed for durability, often made from multiple bonded materials and installed with adhesives. This makes uplift more complex, increases the risk of contamination, and limits recycling and reuse options.
For contractors, this can mean more labour-intensive removal, fewer disposal routes, and rising costs.
TakeMyFlooring® aims to address these issues by improving visibility, accessibility, and coordination across the sector.
The TakeMyFlooring® platform supports the often-missed opportunity of reuse. There is a clear demand for good-quality, second-hand flooring, but logistical barriers have held this back. By improving connections and, in time, enabling local hubs, TakeMyFlooring® could help unlock this potential, benefiting contractors, communities, and the environment.
Speaking of gaining the trademark, Cathie Clarke, CEO of UKSFA, said: “This signals UKSFA’s commitment to driving meaningful change. As the platform develops, it will play a key role in helping the sector transition towards more sustainable, circular practices.
“For contractors, manufacturers, and the wider supply chain, it represents a practical step forward, making it easier to manage flooring waste responsibly and adapt to a rapidly evolving landscape.”
