MJ’s Event Services (MJ’s), a leading provider of sustainable flooring solutions to
the exhibition and events industry, has announced its commitment to
transitioning all clients to Rewind®, the most sustainable exhibition carpet on the
market, by the end of Q2 2025. This bold move follows growing industry demand
for greener solutions and reflects MJ’s long-standing dedication to environmental
responsibility.
Rewind, manufactured by Beaulieu (B.I.G.), is already widely used across Europe,
and MJ’s is now driving the UK exhibition industry to embrace this superior
sustainable alternative. Unlike traditional cord carpet, which has become
increasingly difficult to recycle due to the lower-quality pellet it produces, Rewind
is a single polymer product that creates a high-grade polypropylene (PP) pellet
when recycled. This pellet is in high demand within the plastics industry,
significantly reducing the need for virgin PP and advancing the circular economy
within events.
MJ’s has successfully removed Rewind’s primary barrier to entry by ensuring it is
competitive with traditional cord, making sustainability an accessible and
cost-effective choice for all clients.
“Rewind is a game-changer for the UK exhibition industry,” said MJ’s COO, Jennifer
Bishopp. “It requires up to 85% less energy to produce and delivers a 55%
reduction in CO2e compared to traditional cord carpet. If we supply the same
volumes this year as we did in 2024, but wholly in Rewind, there would be a water
saving of 450,000 litres and a CO2e saving of 2000 tonnes. If a more sustainable
option is available that maintains vibrant colours, provides excellent comfort
underfoot, and significantly reduces waste, why wouldn’t you use it?”
The company’s commitment to Rewind was catalysed during a UK exhibition,
where concerns about misleading sustainability messaging surrounding event
carpeting were identified.
“As a responsible industry supplier, we recognised the need to challenge this
misunderstanding about the sustainability of carpet through increased education
and awareness. We committed to ensuring that exhibition organisers and
stakeholders could make informed decisions based on verified data. The
overwhelmingly positive response from clients and event attendees to the Rewind
product range further reinforced this strategic shift,” added Bishopp.
Client adoption has been steadily increasing, with the final push driven by the
declining viability of recycling traditional cord carpet in the UK. With the exhibition
industry under increasing pressure to reduce waste and improve sustainability
credentials, MJ’s proactive approach sets a new benchmark for environmentally
responsible event flooring.
MJ’s continues to work closely with Beaulieu (B.I.G.) to support the expansion of
Rewind’s adoption across the UK and Europe.
“At Beaulieu, we are dedicated to building a sustainable future by prioritising
recyclable products and responsible resource management,” said Bénédicte
Lobel, business development manager of Rewind. “We are very proud to partner
with MJ’s in this mission. Together, we are committed to making events more
sustainable and eliminating carpet waste.”
As MJ’s Event Services leads the charge toward a more sustainable future for
exhibitions, the transition to Rewind marks a significant milestone in reducing the
environmental footprint of the events industry – while delivering high-quality,
cost-effective flooring solutions for organisers, venues, and exhibitors alike.
