2020 Review
In a year of uncertainty, Carpet Recycling UK has continued to provide a valuable networking platform from the safety of home. Sadly, none of us have been able to attend or hold any events in person which is a key function of Carpet Recycling UK and we have missed catching up with our network! Whilst not being able to represent our members face to face to the industry, we have upped our online activities and represented them through our social media, e-newsletter, industry specific publications and the media. Carpet Recycling UK’s remit is unchanged – our focus is to help industry UK wide and internationally, to become more sustainable, share and disseminate best practice and help to develop and promote design for recycling and the use of carpet waste as a valuable resource and replacement of virgin fossil fuels.
In 2020, the Flooring Shows (Buying Groups National Flooring Show and The Flooring Show) were unfortunately both cancelled and Carpet Recycling was not able to host its flagship annual networking conference. Our conference is of particular importance as it brings together like-minded decision makers who come together to share best practice and disseminate developments in design for recycling, outlets for recycled carpet waste, take back for reuse and the third sector, as well as new technologies which help to drive forward the standards which apply to this sector. We know how much our network and industry value this event and we are working on options of how to create this value again in 2021.
2020 Awards
At the end of 2020, Carpet Recycling UK held its annual awards online, kindly sponsored by its technology members MachTech Services and Warwick Ward, and was pleased to announce some very worthwhile winners from amongst its membership:

What can you expect from Carpet Recycling UK in 2021?
2021 has started off with some uncertainty and we already know that the first of our usual flooring shows has been postponed (Buying Groups National Flooring Show attended by members of all the retail buying groups), details tbc.
Lobbying for favourable change
Carpet Recycling UK continues to work alongside the Environment Agency and DEFRA to be the voice of the industry in defending the sector’s position with regards to reuse, recycling and treatment of carpet waste. Separate working groups have been set up for Manufacturers and Recyclers to help produce guidelines and best practice measures. If you would like to learn more about these groups or feel as though you can contribute to the groups, please do contact us.
Taking part at CFJs Expo Live online
Carpet Recycling UK is delighted to be taking part on the Expo Live Sustainability Panel and will have a “room” for the event on 1 July 2021. We are keen to include more manufacturers and flooring suppliers into our membership to support us to continue making a difference. We will take the opportunity of EXPO Live to discuss how we work and what we can offer. We will update delegates on the latest in sustainability relating to design for recycling and inform them of solutions for carpet tile, carpet and other textile flooring waste. Companies will hear about best practice and what to consider when considering diverting contract flooring waste like carpet tiles or fitting offcuts from new homes building from landfill. Programme details to be confirmed and you can register here to attend. CFJ LIVE – Online Flooring Expo 2021 (cfjliveexpo.co.uk).

The Flooring Show, Harrogate
The Flooring Show is confirmed for 19-21 September 2021 and we look forward to seeing manufacturers and flooring contractors face to face! More details to come.
Dissemination events online
In addition to the above, we aim to offer an online conference and awards as well as some useful webinars. We will keep you posted with details as these develop. For companies who wish to disseminate to the network any new developments relating to sustainability, circular design, using carpet waste as a resource, new technology advances etc, we are very keen to hear from you to consider potential speaker slots. We will also offer sponsorship places so that those of our members who normally exhibit in person will be able to share their company details with the delegates.
