UKSFA Wednesday Webinars are back!

We are delighted to announce that our Wednesday Webinars are back with a presentation given by Stephen Snaith for the British Coatings Federation and their PaintCare scheme.PaintCare is a voluntary, industry-led and funded scheme to recycle and reuse leftover decorative paint and packaging in the UK.

Today, 98% of these  half-filled cans of paint that the public and decorating contractors have in sheds and garages across the country, and the empty paint cans they have after decorating are incinerated. PaintCare will reduce the environmental impact of decorative leftover paint and empty packaging, bringing valuable materials back into use through reuse or remanufacture of leftover paint. It will facilitate circularity in plastic and metal paint packaging.

PaintCare will also deliver economic and social value, creating an estimated 200 jobs and 1,600 third-sector volunteering opportunities across the country.

PaintCare will be a big help to the Government in achieving its aim of a much improved circular economy across the chemicals sector.

PaintCare will radically transform and improve the end-of-life experience for paint products, with the goal of recycling or reusing 75% of leftover paint by 2030. It will also establish a facility to ensure recovered paint packaging can be recycled across the UK.

Ultimately, when fully up and running, PaintCare is expected to reduce carbon emissions from the take-back and recycling of leftover paint by 50% compared to the present day.Market research conducted by PaintCare confirms that both consumers and tradespeople want to do the right thing by recycling their leftover paint and empty packaging – but, currently, there is no simple or accessible process to enable this. That same research shows strong support for the PaintCare solution, which will make it significantly easier for people to recycle responsibly. PaintCare when fully operational will provide over 2000 collection points for use by consumers and tradespeople.

The webinar will cover the background to the scheme, collection routes, reprocessing and recycle routes and the funding model.
