Ahead of the live Flooring Show event in September, Carpet Recycling UK is inviting its core funders to update its network on sustainability. Betap will show its range including the NextGen 100% single polymer recyclable ranges in the Reading Room at the Magestic Hotel from 19-21 September in Harrogate.
Says Marcel Potters, R and D Manager “Betap is a globally renowned carpet manufacturer, tailoring to clients in the automotive, residential, landscape, commercial and exhibition sectors. We design, develop and produce a wide range of high-quality flooring solutions.
Reduction of waste, in material and energy is a daily job in production. On the coating machines we used the tried PLEVA concept; that means a complete automatically guiding system of the air-fans (frequency-regulated) in combination with measuring the moisture into the machine output to air.
For flame retardant products, we don’t use prohibited chemical products; Betap found the solution in a very special tuft-backing construction without suspicious materials.
Sustainability is the most important topic at this moment, because the EEC in combination with the Dutch Government required a decrease of Co2 emissions of 50% in 2030!
We already changed partly our production facilities from gas usage to electric. By doing this, Betap has been able to reduce its carbon footprint by 80%. The name of this high-quality, sustainable carpet? NextGen. This enabled us to use 100% polypropylene, polyester, or any other raw material, making our carpets fully recyclable. By melting these materials into recy-granulate, they created the raw material for yarn and fibre. For this Betap is on the way for process and- product certifications. In the Covid-19 period Betap started research for using Hydrogen as a fuel for the burners on the coating machines. Now we are on the cusp to start the first industrial trial which seems very promising,, and we are also selected by the Dutch government for an EU Hydrogen project.
The total investment in special developed machines was around €4 million.
Betap wants to engage with the complete CRUK network, because it is our common responsibility to make cleaner products and a cleaner world. In that responsibility we need the complete chain on-board for rethinking and storytelling”.
