About Balsan

Balsan has been a key player in the textile industry for over three centuries. A French company, its origins lie in the Manufacture Royale de Châteauroux. Purchased by Pierre Balsan in 1860, it has never ceased to foster a spirit of entrepreneurship and a desire to innovate. Such boldness led Louis Balsan to introduce tufting in France, a technique which is still widely used by textile flooring manufacturers. Balsan merged with the Belgium group Belgotex International in 2006.
Proud of its roots in the French region of Berry, Balsan has two production sites located in Châteauroux forest. The company is a trailblazer in sustainable development and has launched many initiatives to protect the environment, including a zero waste objective (which has been achieved), a partnership with the French national forestry office, the use of Econyl yarn, its own waste water treatment plant and waste recycling. In terms of future products, our approach is centred on a commitment to eco-design. This governs the choice of materials, the production technology and the technical characteristics of our carpets. In the future, these will be even easier to lay, will last longer and will be easier to remove when they’ve reached the end of their useful life.  The raw materials used to produce them will be easier to sort and recycle after use. We’re moving into a circular economy. We’re switching from disposable products to something much more sustainable.
Balsan’s 100% Made In France carpets showcase colour and are bursting with creative potential. They are designed for offices, hotels and homes.
Balsan carpets are now sold throughout France and across the world. Balsan relies on the skill of its 250 employees and registers a yearly turnover of close to 70 million euros, 45% of which is derived from export.
Balsan’s philosophy approaches flooring as medium for self-expression in its own right. The company exploits the creative potential of carpet through the use of colour. It is this that forms the unique signature of the brand.
Constantly seeking to meet and exceed market expectations, Balsan has recently expanded its range to include hard flooring in addition to textile flooring. The Symbiance collection is Balsan’s first range of  vinyl flooring, developed from high-performance materials.
The company is also committed to supporting young talent, and has set up partnerships with design schools (Dare Your Dreams Collection) as well as organising exhibitions of the work of young designers (Marta Bakowski, Laureline Galliot and Isabelle Daëron) as part of Paris Design Week.
