Ellen Petts of Greenstream accepting award 2019

2019 was nicely rounded for Greenstream last week with them adding to their large award cabinet by winning the Outstanding Social Enterprise category at the Wales Sustainable Academy Awards last Friday.

Organised by Cynnal Cymru and RenewableUK Cymru, the Sustainable Academy Award

s, which has Wales & West Utilities as its headline sponsor, celebrates sustainability excellence, innovation, and leadership across Wales and recognises work being done by individuals, community groups and the public sector, as well as small and large businesses.
There were nine categories in total announced at the award event at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff last Thursday with Mari Arthur, Director of Cynnal Cymru presenting Ellen Petts, founder and Managing Director of Greenstream with their award.

‘Ellen Petts commented ‘I was delighted to pick up this award on behalf of our hard-working and dedicated team. Being a disrupter in the market is not easy so this award really gives us all a boost. A big thank you to all our friends and supporters for voting for us too’,

Rhys Wyn Jones, Head of RenewableUK Cymru, said: “Every entry is a fantastic demonstration of the sheer drive, enthusiasm, and commitment that is helping to make Wales a world leader in working sustainability across a range of areas.”

Steven Edwards, Director of Regulation & Commercial at main sponsors Wales & West Utilities, said: ‘we’re proud to be headline sponsor for the Wales Sustainability Academy Awards and congratulate the winners, all who demonstrate sustainability excellence, innovation, and leadership.”

Greenstream Recycling is part of Greenstream Flooring CIC, a community interest company established in 2009 in South Wales whose mission is to maximize the community benefit from the sales and re-use of carpet. Greenstream is a longstanding member of Carpet Recycling UK (CRUK), and a repeat winner of CRUK’s re-use member awards for achievement.

In 2019, Greenstream increased its achievements further, reporting an impressive 91,000m2 recovered by its Greenstream Recycling division, a rise of 15% on 2018. Of that figure, 69% was re-used while the remainder was recycled via a UK based equestrian partner thus continuing to maintain its zero-waste commitment and ensuring that the post-consumer carpet tiles they deal with are default given extended life, with the fibres being recycled rather than either buried or burnt.

Next year promises to be an interesting year for Greenstream again with further material extension development plans in the pipeline and a long-awaited launch of a new website profiling it’s established circular office flooring services in hand for early 2020.
