In September, the annual Flooring Show once again took place in Harrogate. Currently the largest flooring show in the UK, this event is growing in popularity and attendees. It saw the leading manufacturers, retailers, distributers and designers congregate under the same roof for three days of focus groups, presentations, trade shows and networking. CRUK were once again present and welcoming delegates and members to their stand to discuss current issues and to meet the newly appointed CEO, Cathie Clarke.
As in previous years, the prevailing question from delegates was “where can we take our waste/offcuts to rather than using a skip?” and although that question is still an important one, delegates were also asking about what else they can do to become more environmentally aware and sustainable. Several conversations were also taking place regarding the need for and importance of having Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and how the EU Green Claims Directive will affect what we can and cannot say in the future.
To help the retail sector and residential customers, this year, CRUK was able to announce the launch of a newly developed database; www.recylemycarpet.co.uk This resource has been specifically developed to support householders by providing information on their local household waste recycling centres that are able to accept carpet and textile flooring waste. The easy-to-use database allows the user to enter their postcode and provides a lists local council run recycling centres which helps the retailers and fitters offer a free and local solution to pass on to their customers.
The database was well received, and user feedback particularly praised how easy and accessible it was. More details on this new service can be found by scanning the QR code or visiting http://www.recyclemycarpet.co.uk/
Another noticeable difference this year was an increase in the stands promoting more sustainable wool products, which included The Campaign for British Wool who were actively raising their profile using an eye-catching Shaun the Sheep “Shaun loves wool” promo campaign which could be spotted across the event.
The Sustainability Award 2024 was presented to Textfelt rewarding them for demonstrating their adherence to reducing their carbon footprint and dedication using best recycling practice throughout their operations. Congratulations to Michael Walsh and the team for this.
If you didn’t get a chance to come over to our stand and talk to us, please feel free to contact us in the usual way and we would be happy to speak to you.
