After being selected by Edie Sustainability as a finalist for the Waste Management and Resource Efficiency awards in February 2019 and coming second place to the Canary Wharf Group, Carpet Recycling UK was asked to speak at the edie live event held at the Birmingham NEC on the 22nd May 2019.

The edie live event is the UK’s biggest event for energy, sustainability and resource professional, attracting thousands of visitors from the UK and Internationally over the 2 days.

With innovative exhibitors showcasing the latest technology and services, visitors gaining advice from experts and lively debates in the seminar theatres, visitors left edie Live with new ideas, ready to turn their ambition into action.

Carpet Recycling UK’s Scheme Manager Adnan Zeb-Khan was asked to present at the first session of day 2 which was themed ‘Ahead of the Curve’ and was designed to bring forward discussions on global resource revolution, redesigning systems and business models with a zero-waste mindset and accelerating the circular economy.

The session consisted of talks from;

1. TerraCycle Europe – with a general update on closed loop recycling initiatives launched throughout the UK & EU;
2. BAM Constructs Mission Possible – Zero construction waste, engaging with supply chain and going for sustainability first.
3. JPA Furniture – Case study on using sustainable products in the design of furniture and take-back schemes
4. Carpet Recycling UK – How it achieved diversion of over 1 million tonnes of carpet waste from landfill, design for recycling and resource efficiency
5. B&M Waste Services – How effective Supply Chain collaboration reduces costs, carbon, and improves CSR .

The presentations were then finished off with an engaging panel discussion.

For Carpet Recycling UK, the exposure to demonstrate the difficulty with recycling carpets, the success of all our members in helping us achieve over 1 million tonnes of carpet waste diverted in ten years as well as, existing take-back schemes and the future design for recycling concepts with carpets was greatly received and a high level of interest has been recorded from companies and organisations in the waste sector.
