cfj live

On 1st July, Carpet Recycling UK took part in the first CFJ Live Expo hosted on Hop In.  The new event gave the flooring sector the opportunity to exhibit and update the market in a very different way.  Thanks to Harriet Whittaker and the Contract Flooring Journal team for arranging this and inviting us to take part.

“Our programme for the event which took place from 2-7pm included presentations and speakers from some of our key members and network, raising the profile of sustainability in design, take back for reuse and recycling and repurposing, which is becoming very important to the interior, design and fit out sector.   This sector recognises the emphasis and importance for their customers in reducing resources used for construction projects” says Carpet Recycling UK manager Adnan Zeb-Khan who attended the 2021 Sustainability summit panel along with other key industry bodies including Doug Morwood (Chairman of Insight Future), Jane Thornback (Sustainability Policy Advisor for the Construction Products Association), Carl Harper (MD Westcotes Flooring) and Richard McKinlay (Head of Consulting AXION).

The panel was well-attended, and delegates heard about how the flooring industry is progressing towards more sustainable designs and the challenges it needs to overcome.

In addition to talks from Adnan on Carpet Recycling UK and Marie Rhodes on the CRUK new best practice guide, speakers included

  • James Bagdadi of Tarkett Desso on their national take back scheme called ReStart for carpet tiles and vinyl.
  • Ellen Petts of Greenstream Flooring on carpet tile reuse and working with Housing Associations and Commercial developments to promote the use of more quality textile flooring.
  • David Heafey of Saint flooring on the finer points of incentivising a flooring contractor team to help segregate a clean waste stream for the non-wovens recycler John Cotton Group.
  • Josie Lees of Interiors company MCM UKprovided the designer’s point of view relating to reusing and repurposing materials for their developer clients.
  • Finally, recycling member Anglo Recycling shared a slide presentation and video to show their circular relationship with John Lewis.

Thanks to everyone who helped the day to go smoothly and for the information and updates provided!
