The latest WRAP gate fees report for 2021/22 is out and although no big changes for Energy from Waste (EfW) and Landfill still worth showing the factors involved in calculating the fees.
Adnan Zeb-Khan, Manager at Carpet Recycling UK says “the annual WRAP gate fee report is an important publication that is eagerly anticipated by local authorities and waste management companies across the UK. To help provide transparency for the industry, WRAP has been producing this report on a regular annual basis and claims to be on its fifteenth publication. Each year they survey the waste sector and local authorities to identify and compare changes and trends in costs that help define the gate fees of certain waste and recycling treatment facilities. The range of facilities compared includes energy from waste (EfW), non-hazardous landfill, material recycling facilities (MRFs) anaerobic digestion (AD) and in-vessel composting (IVC).
With regard to the carpet and textile flooring sector the two key end destinations identified in this report are EfW and non-hazardous landfill. Both these have seen a limited increase in their gate fees between 2020/21 and 2021/22 and the landfill tax remains at £96.70/tonne. The increase in costs has been attributed to higher operating costs, inflation/indexation and availability/capacity.
The report is also useful in showing the gate fee costs including and excluding transport.
